So here are some pictures of the installation just a mile or so from my house.  I LOVE LOVE LOVE the pumps and the hoses.

Patchwork Plus April 15, 2008

So I started the day off with a road trip to a yarn and quilt shop.  They carry a wide variety of threads, unlike my usual haunt Mission Rose, and they carry ribbons, like my most detested needlework shop.  Okay so an explanation is in order.  You know when you go in a store and it feels like you are being watched for shoplifting (when I was a teenager there was a store in the mall where you JUST KNEW they were watching) well I go into this needlework shop and I swear she looks into my purse at the checkout EVERY TIME.  So I would rather drive for 45 minutes than to deal with this place.  By the way I haven’t stolen anything like ever.  I also haven’t seen much in the way of cottons or bamboo or hemp at Mission Rose, so I drove to this place I had only been to once with my Mom last summer.  I got some cottons and some hemp for a purse, and some nice purple for a tunic from a Vogue Knitting that I have been admiring for two years.  My daughter was sick so I went to the store and saw that the International Fiber Collaborative is hanging the installation.  See next post.

Crazy quilt panels

I started crazy quilting last year.  My Mom is a quilter but she likes to do really precise things.  I prefer the more haphazard style of crazy quilting.  I took a couple classes to learn more stitches and to get ideas.  Looking at my first panels, I can see my inexperience; I really stuck to the seams and didn’t really meander about.  I also did some experiements and came up with stitches on my own that I later learned how to do properly.  I haven’t really done any embroidery all winter.  There is something about knitting on cold winter nights…

My daughter had the great idea of turning some of these squares into elegant handheld clutches.  Another summer project.

Tapa purse

This purse was so much easier to knit than the African purse.  I like it so much I don’t want to sell it, I want to use it myself.  I just love the rich look of the buttons too.  Again my design was inspired by various images I looked for on the web and I did several pages of designs before I decided this one would be best.  I had to change the pattern halfway into it because I had drawn the design sideways and it was not deep enough.  It is lined with unbleached muslin and has two deep center pockets.

Paton\'s classic wool

I love working with Paton’s Classic wool when I make color patterned items, they have a wide variety of colors to choose from.
