Wool Purse from Needful Yarns “Joy” May 26, 2008

This is a wool purse that I made this winter.  It has no pockets on the inside but a nice cell phone pocket on the outside.  This wool yarn is super soft and really lovely.  I am making a purple and dark purple contrasting purse out of the same yarn.  This yarn is from Needful Yarns and is called Joy.  They don’t have fancy names for their yarns but the green looks like a pine forest after the winter snows have melted, and the purple/pink and purple/violet-blue is just like my garden right about now.  So I call this purse Winter Forest Joy and the purple one that I still need to line is called Spring Joy.  http://www.needfulyarnsinc.com/.  check it.

Felted Wool purse

Just a big bag, I think it would be great as a knitting bag, or a carry all, for example when you have to go to dance lessons with your child or a doctor’s appointment and you want to bring a couple toys for the little one, a couple magazines and maybe a sweater.  Love it!  Lined in unbleached muslin and timtex for shape.  Really gorgeous purse.  I used a blue for the body and a linen color for the pattern.

This is the finished a Lion Brand yarn Organic Cotton Purse; I just love this walnut color.   It is lined with unbleached muslin and Timtex, a stiffiening agent. I started using it and have discovered only one flaw…the cell phone pouch is not deep enough and the phone slips out.  The length of the strap is great for me because I can throw it over my head and wear it across my shoulder.  The strap is not substantial enough to stay on the shoulder edge which is good to know.    The button and flap are perfect. And I love the weight of the purse.

Tree wrapped in fiber

Tree wrapped in yarn

I posted this on my other blog because I discovered it while walking in the park.  I stopped and looked at it, I couldn’t figure out what was going on.  I thought someone had painted it but as i got closer I saw that it was this gorgeous pinkish purple yarn seemingly of wool.  The photo does not do any justice to the lovely texture of it.  It had these little thorns sticking out of the ends of the branches that was such a wonderful contrast to the silky and smooth wool roving.

Beads from Market Beads

So I went to this store after work today.  I have been there before, one day last summer, but was feeling like visiting again.  It is a great little store, with a hippy clothing store next door.  The ladies there are super nice and seem to have a healthy obsession with beads, good for any beadstore.  I found these awesome bamboo beads that I couldn’t get enough of and have an idea for a beaded tree which comes from a quote about a jewelled tree in a myth from a Joseph Campbell book I am reading called Myths to Live By.

My small bead collection

I really want to go to the bead store, but I think it will have to wait until the next paycheck.
