I studied studio art as an undergrad and art education as a graduate student.  I paint irregularly, sketch and draw somewhat more frequently and lately I am really interested in fiber arts, knitting, crazy quilting and dollmaking.  I also teach full time in an inner city school.  I am working promote the importance of the arts in a well rounded education.  I find that kids who do not excel in reading and math frequently excel  in the arts.  The research that is being done on the brain and it’s untapped potential make this a particularly intriguing topic for me.  Art is a vital part of my life and I couldn’t survive without it!

Meg, keep up the fight to promote arts in education. Having taught special education and art, I know you’re perceptions are true. But schools always want to cut art and music and don’t realize what they are doing to kids. Kids need to be active and creative, that’s how they learn best. I enjoy looking at your site once in a while. Thanks, Aunt Melinda
