Fabric, bead and embroidery crow

Fabric, bead and embroidery crow

My daughter had to take these credit hours in various activities in order to graduate in a special program at school.  So I signed her up to take an ATC class at the quilt store.  She loves collage so I thought she might really like to do this.  I also took the class rather than sit there and do nothing for 2 hours.   So I made this really cute crow ATC.

Leaf for Fiber Tree

Leaf for Fiber Tree

This leaf was designed by one of my students and will be sent to Jennifer Marsh coordinator of the International Fiber Collaborative Tree project.  I had about 1/4 of my students make a leaf  and then I had to pick one to recreate for this project.  It was a difficult decision but this leaf seemed most likely to translate well into fabric, thread and beads.  Congratulations to the winner.  The young lady who did this leaf will be really surprised and pleased.

Tree Project

Tree Project

Last year I had my third grader art students create a 3 foot square panel which we submitted to the International Fiber Collaborative project that I have previously blogged about.  This year I had children from several grades create leaves for the new Tree Project that Jennifer Marsh is coordinating in Alabama.  I am going to choose one leaf and make it up to submit in our school’s name once again.  The kids really had a fun time making the leaves, plus it is a great opportunity for them to participate in the art community at large.  The tree display that I created to show off all of the leaves they created is so striking in person.  It is located at the top of a stairwell and this photo does not do justice to the amazing pop of color that greets your eye as you round the mid level.

Cotton Anchor purse

So my Mom is visiting and we went to Patchwork Plus yesterday.  I purchased three skeins of a silk and viscose yarn, two are wheat colored and the third a lovely creamy color, for making another purse.  They were on discount and I got the skeins quite inexpensively.  I also purchased some fabric for a lime green and navy crazy quilted purse and this wonderful anchor fabric for lining the sailor purse.  My daughter, whom Michelle says should be our style consultant in all matters, thinks we should be able to sell this purse easily, in fact that I will have to hide it from her.  The hubby is in Burlington and promises to find some interesting yarn to bring home too.  Can’t wait to see what he has chosen!!

Tree wrapped in fiber

Tree wrapped in yarn

I posted this on my other blog because I discovered it while walking in the park.  I stopped and looked at it, I couldn’t figure out what was going on.  I thought someone had painted it but as i got closer I saw that it was this gorgeous pinkish purple yarn seemingly of wool.  The photo does not do any justice to the lovely texture of it.  It had these little thorns sticking out of the ends of the branches that was such a wonderful contrast to the silky and smooth wool roving.
